Sea Salt VS Resolve inking technique

Good afternoon! I had the day off today, so I decided to throw a little crafting into the daily boring cleaning day!

I had seen on Pinterest an inking technique using Oxyclean. I decided to try this out and compare it to the "sea salt" technique. For my laundry whitener I decided to try Resolve. I will show you the sea salt technique first then the Resolve, and then compare them both with some pro and cons :)

These are the products I used for the salt technique. In both cases, I used these Dylusions sprays on watercolour paper. I worked quickly to spray the whole surface because you want to add the sea salt to WET ink! If an area dries, I added a bit more spray or water to that area. Sprinkle the salt on and set aside to dry.

So now on to the Resolve....

Same inks and paper but used Resolve laundry.

Resolve pushes away the ink as soon as you sprinkle it on....but then nothing else for a while.....be patient, it is worth it :)

A close-up of the dry paper...the Resolve REMOVED colour and gave me new colours like yellow and a pinkish colour in the blue (sorry you can't see that!)

So both techniques gave really cool and very different results! Both added new colours to the inked sheet, BUT Resolve did so much more dramatically! Both warped the watercolour paper, but the Relsolve did so more, I think it was because I did spray it with more water. Both are under heavy books right now to press them. 

So for sheets that started off almost identical...they sure morphed into completely different looks :) One girly and one more boyish lol!

I plan to doddle on them like I saw done on this Pinterest post HERE. I am going to try this with pinks and oranges next, so I can cut out pretty flowers :) :) :)

I was inspired to do this post by May over at the Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge: No rules. May showed an awesome video playing with inks....I could watch videos like these for hours lol :)

PROTOCOL

Good evening again:) I am back with a mixed media board. It coordinates with the mop up tag I showed you yesterday.  This board was my second attempt at having the background stamping show through....I actually learned from my "blue" board....watering down spray inks and or paints on a craft mat really helps with this :) Shocking I know :)

Unfortunately the story behind the saying is way too long to explain...but just to say that my girlfriends and I try our best to be free and EASY going, with no strict rules on friendship....let's just leave it at that! This board will hang in my craft room to remind me of my awesome friends, and to remind me to be EASY...like the button :)

Grey and Yellow

Good evening! Hope everyone survived Monday :)  I have a card to share today:

This card fits a few challenges :) Impression Obsession Challenge: Yellow and Grey. I used two beautiful background stamps of theirs: CR007 Tiny Flowers and CR006 Honeycomb. The sentiment is a SRM Sticker.

I am also going to enter this card in Simon Says Stamp Challenge: Animal Antics and Simon Say Stamp and Show Challenge: No rules.

Hello! I'm back with a "mop up" tag from a board that I will show you later tonight...you know, when you have left over ink on your craft mat and you don't want to waste it, you use a tag to mop it up :)

My girlfriends gave me a bag full of beautiful new stencils for my birthday :) :) :) It definitely is one of my favorite techniques for tags and mixed media boards!!!

Favorite Technique

Good afternoon :) I hope you all have had a fantastic weekend... I did, with my scrapin friends!!! We had many laughs and were quite productive too :)

I have a mixed media board to share today that features one of my favorite techniques... stencilling :)

Like my previous board....this board gave me much angst!! My daughter requested a "blue" board for her wall, so I envisioned a much lighter coloured board that would show all the stamping on tissue paper that I had as a base layer to show through...but of course with my spray inks and lack of experience, the colour came out way to dark. I should of watered down the ink on a kraft sheet first! 

 So this board got put down and picked up many many times with accompanying names associated with it!...I hated it, then liked it, then disliked it, then finally I loved it LOL!! It took hours to make :) Happy to say my daughter likes it!!!

Grungey board

Good afternoon! Today I have a multi media board to share that has really evolved :)

As you can see this is not my usual style of liking things to be "pretty"....this board has evolved from being totally "ugly" to acceptable "distressed" lol.

I am going to enter this into Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge: Favorite technique. I love to used Golden Gel Mediums Light Molding Paste on my boards to create depth and interest :)

Happy Anniversary tag card

Good afternoon:) I have a manly card to share today that was inspired by my visit last weekend to my sweet friend Bonita's cottage :)

I love this Herringbone background stamp (CR004) from Impression Obsession....so versatile!!! I am entering it in IO latest challenge: It's a Man's World, you can check it out HERE. The sentiment is a SRM sticker. The tag was made using various inks and the sea salt technique.

sea salt tag

Good afternoon :) I have a little tag to share today...I totally moved it around on various papers for about an hour trying to make it into a card!!....but decided   I like it best just as a tag/bookmark :)

Here is a close-up again to show the sea salt and liquid technique I used. You can actually still see a few grains of salt I didn't brush off well enough :)

I can't wait to try it on glossy paper like she did in the video! Someone in the comments also mentioned that coarse sand does the opposite reaction...off to find some sand :)

Papertrey July Blog Hop Challenge

Good morning! I can't believe it has been 3 weeks since I have been posting regularly! Summer time really keeps me out of the craft room...too busy training for triathlons, doing garden work, and playing with friends :)

I was fortunate to spend five awesome days with a wonderful bunch of scrappin friends, and we did manage to get some crafting accomplished in amongst our water fun:)

Mixed Media :)

Good evening....I have a mixed media board to share :) 

The board base started out with a sea salt technique where you sprinkle salt on wet ink, let it dry completely and the salt absorbs some of the ink leaving behind a mottled texture. Here is a photo of the board with the dried salt on it:

Now I have a baggie of really pretty sea salt and not sure what to do with it....any suggestions :)

Good morning! I have a card to share that was inspired by the photo from Papertrey ink's Blog Hop, although I did not have time to play that day....I loved all the beautiful inspiration I saw so I "needed" to give it a go. This weeks Make it Monday #72 is to create your own embellishments :) LOVE that!

I used three different stamps sets to create the flower emb...so fun! I can see making up a few of these just for fun, would be perfect to just to have a few handy for a card when the mojo is lacking.
